A mobile court operation was conducted today, 8 May 2025, in the Kakalia and Shakta areas of Keraniganj, targeting illegal battery factories. The operation was jointly carried out by the Dhaka District Office and the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment (DoE).
Two illegal battery factories—Sagar Battery House and Yespa Metal—located on Abdus Salam Chairman Road, were sealed during the drive. Their utility connections were disconnected, and two separate cases were filed against them.
It was found that a road in the area had been constructed using zinc factory waste. The factory owners were ordered to remove this hazardous waste within 7 days.
The operation was led by DoE’s Executive Magistrate Md. Rezwan-ul-Islam. A team from Bangladesh Police extended support during the operation.
Additionally, in separate mobile court drives under the Air Pollution (Control) Rules 2022, two cases were filed and fines totaling Tk. 60,000 were realized from operations in Banglamotor and Jatrabari areas of Dhaka. One factory’s utility connection was also disconnected.
Under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules 2006, drives in Eskaton and Dhamrai resulted in 13 cases and fines totaling Tk. 13,500.
Another mobile court operation against black smoke emissions in the Tejgaon industrial area led to 10 cases and fines amounting to Tk. 31,500.
The Department of Environment will continue such enforcement actions to protect the environment.
